Blackberry Love

We found some huge blackberries on our hedge and we know how much the emus enjoy them so we collected some strawberries and a banana together and popped past their enclosure this morning.
George picked out the blackberries very fast while Willow looked on hoping for some! George hasn’t had the best week this week so he deserved a treat.
A farmer a field away decided to use a tractor and flail to cut the hedges which made the emus very unsettled and George threw himself at the fence in alarm several times and sadly hurt his neck. The vet came out and checked him over and administered some first aid. Hopefully he is now on the mend.
This was linked to a tragic event when they were with their previous owner in England and has clearly left poor George very worried when he hears the loud noise of a tractor cutting hedgerows. We have started to cover part of the enclosure with willow screen so that there is an area more secure for them. This is the area where they spend most of their time.
