Summer is back for a few days.....
Post Sunday lunch.
Hot sunshine. Well at least in the back garden!
Sunday church Livestream this morning.
Yesterday just around teatime Alan and Jen FaceTimed us from Bristol, unexpectedly. It was such a lovely surprise.
Apparently Bonnie did not want her daddy to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to her. And certainly had let him know
So Granny was required!
She loves me singing to her.
Well it was wonderful to see her little face light up and saying “Granny” when I “appeared” on the screen.
She really enjoys me singing to her, and doing the actions.
A game of Peepo also followed. Covering my head under a tea towel and then pulling it off as fast as I could. Laughter. The same with Grandad.
Alan showed us what she did if he started to sing it to her himself.
She vehemently shook her head from side to side as soon as he began!
Only Granny would do.
It was so good, after all the heartache of our cancelled visit.
Libby 7 appeared. She was not very well and the other two had colds, so it was perhaps best all round that we hadn’t gone.
Next it was Toby saying “Is that granny and grandad?” as the others had been in the front room when Alan phoned.
He wanted to know “Where is the Grandad bread?”.
They love it so much and each time we have gone to see them Stephen has taken a fresh baked one for them, which is demolished at lunchtime along with pure Pear and Apple Spread, spread on each slice, which they’ve always insisted on doing themselves! A damp cloth handy is always necessary.
It is really Grape and Sultana bread.
Very yummy toasted.
I promised faithfully we would send the recipe to Alan, and Toby immediately said “And mummy too!” making certain it would be made by them at some point.
Sammy appeared briefly. They were all tired having had their first week back at school Toby on half days being in Reception but in full time this week starting tomorrow.
After tea yesterday a friend popped round coming in through the side gate as we were in the garden.
He had brought me a bunch of roses!
He had messaged us in the morning saying he hoped we would have a lovely time in Bristol with the family.
Obviously I said it was cancelled and why. He knew how much I had been looking forward to it and having three grandchildren of his own that he sees regularly, all living fairly close by, he just knew how I would feel.
Another friend messaged and asked us round for Afternoon Tea today, but we are already off to visit another friend in a short while. Everyone is getting in their visits to friends ahead of the local lockdown beginning in Tuesday.
The summer has returned for a visit just now. The flowers are positively glowing.
All the ones in the photo with the exception of the red rose, have grown from packets of seeds I sow each year, when they can be sown directly into the soil.
They have always rewarded me with a vibrant random display.
Off shortly to walk to our friend’s.
What a difference a day can make.
