A Little Bit of Good News

Another very smoky day...that hasn't changed. But firefighting conditions have improved a bit, with marine air moving in from the coast and the fires have moderated somewhat. Both huge fires southeast of Portland remain un-contained, but firefighters have been working on perimeter lines which will stop the spread of the fire. I've read that some of this is done by using bulldozers to create huge earthen berms. They expect to have it 50% completed today. Amazing, amazing work that these brave folks are doing. 

Tomorrow night we'll have a very little bit of rain, but it's something, and the smoke is expected to start dissipating tomorrow evening. The weather looks like it will be a bit damp, no real significant rainfall though. 

So enough of fires and smoke and let's think optimistically!  A dash through the garden this afternoon found a few more bees today than yesterday - maybe six :-)  And this bumblebee allowed me to take its portrait will enjoying a lovely, deep pink cosmos.
