A tangle of grass snakes

F and I had to go to Shrewsbury for a couple of things that we couldn't get in Oswestry so we combined it with a visit to Venus Pool Nature Reserve.  We knew that the hides were closed so walked around the field and woodland.

The big thrill of the trip was seeing this pair of grass snakes coiled up together. They're such beautiful creatures!  There weren't many birds around but lots of dragonflies and butterflies for us to observe.

We went to Shrewsbury afterwards. I hadn't been there since before lockdown and was surprised to see so few people about and a number of shops closed since my last visit
