first Valentine

This afternoon my son and I picked out some flowers and arranged a little bundle for his sixth grade lady friend. I'm registering the importance not without bittersweetness. After all, all these years I've been his Valentine...

Little do they know that one day each of them could very well remember this tiny token as their entrance into the hustle and bustle of finding the love of lives. I still remember my first middle school crush, after all; I have more than a few of the notes he wrote to me. Makes me sad so much of the communication between kids these days is essentially written on the sands of electronic times. How will they look back? We all appear so grown up in Times New Roman type face.

But, Thursday he'll happily hand out whoopie cushion Valentines to his buddies and flowers and chocolate to his lady friend. It's not easy being a tween. Or his mom.
