Tuesday morning
It starts early enough. By the time I get back from the Common, Anniemay is bustling with breakfast.
She’s at a lost end this morning; her plans for a virtual bike race through the Alps with Chris have been cancelled as he’s busy with work. In the meantime I get myself ready for a real bike ride around MK. On my own as it happens - “Dave” is Scarborough this week.
Anniemay places a tea-towel over her head and puts her glasses on, giving the appearance of something from a 1930s film noir horror movie. I wait for an explanation.
“ You could take me on your bike ride this morning - I could be ‘not-Dave.’” Luckily she can’t see my expression.
She persists; “You could Blip me as ‘not-Dave’”.
While my mind says “not in a million years” the words come out as “now there’s an idea”.
We stop after about an hour for coffee. I have a bacon roll, she has a fruit salad. Dave wouldn’t have done that.
We do just over 20 miles. Dave wouldn’t have done that either.
