Midday Comfort Music

Some rain last night but it did NOTHING to the Air Quality numbers (altho it did look a bit brighter to me).  A few more smokey days are predicted.  It’s trapped here.    I know the irony isn’t lost on anyone but after being “locked down” for 6 months where we could go outside and take a walk, and people were now enjoying meeting friends in parks and outdoor restaurants,  this is worse…extreme “townhouse fever “ …giving me new appreciation for those who couldn’t  go out of their apartments.     We’ve managed, all along,  watching TV just at night, but today I decided I needed beautiful music so we streamed a Metropolitan Opera Concert.   They’ve been doing a free opera every night but this is a once a month special concert for $20, which stay online for 12 days …. the 2 we’ve seen are fabulous.   And worth it.
Joyce DiDonato HERE.    It’s still bizarre to watch someone give a great performance with no-one in the audience.   The interesting and of-the-times-thing about this is it was originally scheduled to come from Barcelona, but then Barcelona became a Covid hotspot so it was switched to Antwerp, and the same thing happened, so just 2 weeks before the event  (the 12th) it was moved to Bochum, Germany in a fantastic industrial space tuned into a theater!!  Loved it. ( A bit of reflections in the day in the living room...we might have to watch it again at night)

And right after that, it’s 90 minutes of FaceTime with Fiona (it’s tuesday).   I thought she might have had enough screen time all day long but no, she’s in her usual form and we heard all about school and the story she wrote in her writing notebook and also read to the class and then a description of the new PMV house for a family with 17 children, all quarantined so desks at home for school.  Very crowded.  And she read from 2 other books.  And she confirmed that her writing in the family stories I have was her writing from either kindergarten or 1st grade.  (she dictated them to me) 
Extra:  Being silly with Jasper and “sideways gravity” and a page of our recovered book with all these fabulous old portraits I have no idea who they are. but will have to do something artistic with....
