LEIGHTON HALL
Lovely afternoon. The weather was beautiful today, not too hot with a nice coolness to it.
I had booked for G and I to visit Leighton Hall as I had only ever visited before to see a classic car rally there so never visited the house or grounds.
Leighton Hall is not far from Carnforth and very close to RSPB Leighton Moss.
We arrived early and was beautifully met by one of the current people who live there. They limited the number of people that could go round and we were all asked to keep to the social distancing. This proved very difficult for some so they didn't all do that, but it wasn't too bad. One young man going round on his own wore his mask "under" his nose - so why bother wearing one!!!!
Anyway we learnt about the interesting history of Leighton Hall and it's connection with Waring & Gillows, renowned English furniture makers which was formed in 1897 by the two companies of Gillows of Lancaster and London and Waring of Liverpool.

After this we went into the tea room for tea and cake. We then started to wander round the grounds, but I still didn't make it to the little Woodlands simply because they had a Bird of Prey display which I wanted to see.
It was lovely, started off with a Barn Owl, who came and perched himself right on the arm of my bench (well it is one of his regular spots apparently). There there was a Hawk (I can't remember which type) and a Peregrine Falcon, who is definitely his own boss and did just what he liked, which was wonderful.
This lasted a whole hour so we then had to dash home as it's Hubby meet up with his mates (social distancing of course), just 4 of them (5 at the most).
Anyway that was the end of our lovely afternoon.
Hope you all had a good day too. Do take care out there and stay safe.
See you all tomorrow.
The birds of prey are from Aysgarth and the Northern Sky Falconry centre.
