All is revealed . . .

On Wednesday I did a little ‘What is it’, and Madwill got the closest as he recognised what it (originally) was.
 
It is, in fact, a soap dispenser suction tube that’s been adapted to fill automatic soap dispenser bottles.
 
 
“Why?” you may ask.
 
Well some ten or so years ago we ventured into refillable liquid soap dispensers, partially to encourage the grandchildren to wash their hands, and partially for our own convenience.  None of the generic versions we bought lasted, but the units sold by a well known liquid soap manufacturer did.  Unfortunately the refills cost a comparative fortune, and we much prefer Carex anyway (other makes are available).
 
So after a little bit of thought, and a little bit of experimentation, I found that by reversing the suction tube from a Carex bottle, and the addition of an ‘O’ ring, I could easily refill the dispenser bottles.  Of course these days the Carex bottles are refilled from Carex refill packs hence saving plastic and cash!
 
 
Where does ‘Saturday come in?
 
Initially, and for the past ten years, the refilling process had gone with the minimum of leakage until last week.  Initially I thought the filler wasn’t sitting down on the bottle properly, but eventually found that there are breather holes at the top of the tube - see inset. With age the original ‘O’ ring had deteriorated.
 
The silly thing is that this is the first time in ten years that I have noticed the breathing holes (common sense for them to be there really).
 
After a few failures I finally found an odd ‘O’ ring that seemed to cover the holes, and bingo.  The brass olive in Wednesday’s blip was on standby in case the ‘O’ ring didn’t work.  It still is, as I have to reassemble the tube after taking it apart for today’s photo . . . (More Saturday silliness!)
 
 
There’s a need now to get out and enjoy the last of the Summer weather - beautiful day here.
