kinder
Today started early as Isaac has caught Eve’s cold and needed calpol and a few good sneezes. We couldn’t retreat back to my bed as Eve had slept there so I ended up in his. He dozed on and off but asked at least every 5 minutes “Mummy?? Mummy? Make porge? PORGE!” I eventually relented, made porridge and was amazed to watch him eat both mine and his generous portions. Meanwhile Antony and Zeke had slept on a hillside - Zeke needs fresh air and space but is supposed to isolate, wild camping was the compromise. Though I felt terribly guilty for stretching the rules, I was glad that Zeke returned far happier.
I then headed to the hills. It was utterly bizarre to be alone but entirely delicious.
It’s hunting season in the peaks so there were signs on gates with pretty blunt warnings about walking. They conjured up images of ruthless killers. In reality the two hunters I met were jovial and clad head to toe in tweed, not terribly frightening. They chose not to shoot me, thankfully.
As I gained height and started my way round the edge of Kinder, the wind was crazy and knocked me off my feet a few times. I cut off my planned route for fear of being blown off the edge and turned back.
Gratefuls:
1. Low sun over beautiful hills and the occasional walking silhouette in the distance - everyone looks great as a silhouette;
2. Time to just walk - I always expect to have some sort of big conversation with God when I’m out on my own but actually the refreshment comes from just being quiet and enjoying now with Him;
3. Zeke having a brilliant adventure last night, what a gift to be here where we can get to the wild so easily.
