Vase
It was FA Vase Saturday, so I headed up the valley to Silsden for their tie against Garstang.
I have some affinity for Garstang as I got to know it a bit when I lived in Lancaster. One highlight was finding an AA Milne first edition (of little value) in a dusty sale room there. And although I have now lived in the white rose county for fifteen years compared to my nine in the land of the red I try to keep myself apart from Lancastrian-Yorkist rivalries.
Silsden play one league higher in the pyramid and that showed in a comfortable 3-1 win which takes them through to the next round and keeps a Wembley dream alive. It was a beautiful afternoon, and the late summer light and long shadows and pastoral backdrop made for a very pleasant match-going experience. And it made for some pleasing photos like this one.
As is the routine now, my temperature was taken with a ray gun, I left my contact details for track and trace and I found a quiet corner to sit well away from anyone else. The way things are going it seems only a matter of time before match-going privileges are suspended again. That is already part of the local lockdown restrictions in the north east and Lancashire but not yet in West Yorkshire.
