Gorse

A weed, a noxious weed, a horror to get rid of. It smells sweet, the hillsides are stunning with the colour

BUT

It takes over huge areas, it is totally unpalatable for any stock, the flower pods ping seeds for quite a distance, the seeds can remain viable for twenty years and it is incredibly hard to get rid of.

The early settlers brought it over from Britain for fencing. It loves NZ so much it took off.
