Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool
Went to the Royal Court tonight, we saw a play called Dirty Dusting with Ethne Brown and Pauline Daniels . . . not the best production I've seen, but enjoyed the night.
Anyone over 100 years old will remember the "glory days" of the Royal Court. Sadly the theatre seems to have had quite a chequered past. There seemed to be very little happening there for many years and it seemed to be slipping into disrepair; it lay derelict for many years, with occasional rock concerts. It eventually started to be used as a Comedy Club venue. But now has gained a new lease of life - all the stalls have been ripped out and and a bar and restuarant fitted - you can now watch a show and have a meal and drink in the area where the stalls were. There have been some excellent productions there over recent years - it really has become quite a unique experience in theatre-going.
I heard tonight that the Royal Court is having a complete re-vamp costing millions. Good Luck Royal Court!
