Third Brood?
After a busy week I had to sit down and get on with some outstanding paperwork - it was quite a relief to deal with lots of things that had been niggling at the back of my brain. However, this didn't give me a lot of time to get out.
I managed to fit in an hour's walk round Swaddywell Pit, stopping to admire the very large colony of nesting Ivy Bees. Most of the butterflies are rather tattered now, so I was quite surprised to see this pristine male Common Blue, who stopped briefly to nectar on some of the last Marjoram flowers. I'v heard that some populations are producing a third brood - maybe that's also the case at this very sheltered site.
