Tiny Tuesday - Mom's Earrings
Dear Diary,
I found this pair of tiny earrings in a box of my mother's jewelry I got after she died. They are made of Mercury head dimes minted in 1945. They had been painstakingly cutout and affixed to screw backs. Mercury dimes were 90% silver so it was rather common to make jewelry out of them although the practice was, technically, illegal. 1945 was the last year they made Mercury head dimes and it was the year my Dad came home from the war. I am sure there is a story behind them but if there is it has been lost.
