Everybody loves a bit of toast unless you can’t eat gluten of course. I’m halfway house on this. I love it but it doesn’t love me.
Anybody who is familiar with Red Dwarf and the talkie toaster knows what an abundance of bread based items you can have. The one thing they have in common is that they are all comforting to eat. In my case the toasting fork over the fire during the power cuts. Toast and crumpets with butter dripping through and maybe some homemade jam.
The smell through the house was glorious, although on a Sunday for some reason Dad could never remember how to make it. Sunday was burned toast day. My bedroom window was above the back door so I was nearly always woken up by the smell and then the sound of scraping it outside.
Such a simple everyday thing can really evoke memories and smells.
