Hawker Hunter

On 7th September 1953, (Two days before my sixth birthday) the sole Hunter Mk 3 (the modified first prototype, WB188) broke the world air speed record for jet-powered aircraft, achieving 727.63 mph (1,171.01 km/h) over Littlehampton, flown by Neville Duke. This world record stood for less than three weeks before being broken on 25 September 1953 by the Hunter's early rival, the Supermarine Swift, being flown by Michael Lithgow

My Dad spent most of his working life as a aircraft fitter for Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft (The company changed its name several times due to mergers)

During that period he mainly helped build, service and renovate Hawker Hunters.

I looked at this one at York Air Museum, musing on which parts he might have touched. Then I read that this particular one had been built in the Netherlands!

First they came for our Hawker Hunters. Then they came for our HP sauce. Will it never end?
