The Last Rose of Summer
We finally had some rain this morning, much needed by the garden. It saw off my last rose of the season though. I walked into town for the first time in ages to go to the sport shop and the bank. No interesting find in the garden this afternoon, just half a brick!
The Last Rose of Summer (excerpt) by Thomas Moore
TIS the last rose of summer
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone;
No flower of her kindred,
No rosebud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes,
To give sigh for sigh.
Day 192 / Full Day 184 of Lockdown / Day 10 of Rule of Six (for my record only)
UK deaths up 37 to 41,862 (revised basis), with new daily cases up by 6.178 (highest in 4 months although more testing now), with 1,469 patients in hospital and 211 in ventilator beds (doubled in 9 days). Chancellor is to give an update tomorrow on plans for when furlough ends. The Govt confirms that couples in England in 'established relatioships' will not have to socially distance if they don't live together. A Covid outbreak in halls of residence in Dundee has led to 500 students being told to isolate. And finally......Captain Sir Tom Moore has sold the rights to his story which will be made into a film next year - he joked that he'd like Michael Caine or Anthony Hopkins to play him!
