Teeming and ladling

Another day on the sculpture trail.  This is a piece of work called 'Teeming', by the Canadian sculptor Robin Bell.  It shows three steelworkers pouring molten metal from a crucible, with all the strenuous effort and collaboration that this requires..
The work is located at Meadowhall shopping centre, which stands on the site of the former Dunford Hadfields steelworks.  For a long time, it was sited inside the mall itself, where it got more recognition than it does now, standing rather forlornly in the car park.  Traffic streams past, people walk to and for with their eyes on the shopping to be done, or the parked car to be relocated.  Somehow I feel those courageous steelmen deserve better.
They also deserve a bit better from me, in terms of photo quality. Bright sunshine was coming and going, as Richard and I took advantage of a break in today's showers. I'll be going back in the next day or two, as and when there's a gentler light, to get some better images. This is part of the pleasure with the sculpture project, in fact: noticing details, trying to capture a good image, going back and refining the process.
After this we went in search of another piece of work nearby, and got hungry. The closest available option was Pizza Hut, so in we went. These days, you sit down, scan the QR code and order on the phone, before a masked waiter/waitress brings the food. There's a bright red leaflet to wave if you want to attract the staff's attention. This all worked OK.
Today, I've also downloaded the new NHS Covid app.  I'm a regular user of the Covid Symptom Study app, led by King's College in London, which tracks self-reported symptoms and is already producing useful early warnings of trends in case numbers. I don't know what to expect from the NHS app: initiatives led by central government have become so discredited now. We'll see how it goes...
