1 Billion Rising

Today was my first ever protest rally, as part of the 1 billion rising campaign against violence against women. It was good fun and very interesting. There was no bother and everyone had a chance to chant and shout and whistle at the police.

This women wasn't protesting but it is my fave image of the day so you will miss out on all the protest shots I could have shared with you! It still has a non-violent theme though :-)

Yesterday a young monk set himself on fire in protest against the Chinese occupation of Tibet. This happened 5 minutes from our house, which makes it even more shocking than it already is. He died of his burns after being dragged away by police.

The police were also beating old Tibetan ladies.

Today's rally had the feeling of a free country allowing people to voice their opinion. This is not the case in Nepal for everyone.
