The Plague Market
This menhir stands near Merrival on Dartmoor.
It forms part of a stone row which runs exactly east to west.
This area of the moor is known as Plague Market, as during times of plague, provisions for Tavistock were left here for collection.
In the recent 1997 outbreak of bubonic plague, Tavistock residents were forced to use Morrisons or even Lidl, as they were forbidden to travel to the Waitrose in Launceston.
