... and miles to go before I sleep
This is an iconic Robert College photo. Every morning, I pass a student trying to get another few winks before the first bell. Istanbul traffic is heavy and unpredictable. The school bus company pays a fine if students are delivered late to school, so drivers err on the early side. Some students are picked up just after 6 am. Most arrive at school by 7:30 and don't get home until 6. After that, juniors and seniors attend cram schools three nights a week for two or three hours to prepare for the state exit exam that will assure them a place at university. Then they have their homework to do. No wonder they're flaked out all over the school from 7:30 til 8!
