Communion Day
Not my photo ;-)
Isla (nearly 9) had her First Holy Communion today, she looks so pretty. Wee Arón (6) is looking proud of his big sister.
We haven't seen these two grandkids for about a year now as they live in County Antrim, N Ireland. They were meant to be coming to visit last Spring but then Corona virus got worse and we went into lockdown. How we miss them!
I remember the excitement of my own 1st Communion nearly 60 years ago especially the dressing up part. Mum made my white dress - I think it was made from 'paper nylon' with tiny white flock flowers on. Does anyone remember the fabric I mean?
Anyway I must confess that now I am a lapsed Catholic though still a believer of sorts. Talking of confession - when I was little we school kids had to go to confession every Friday.
I was a good little girl so always used to say: "Bless me Father for I have sinned it has been one week since my last confession. I have thought bad words and thought bad deeds."
My penance was always 3 Our Fathers and 1 Hail Mary! ;-D
My back is really painful and I woke up through the night everytime I tried to chang position. I've taken the painkillers, rubbed on Deep Heat and had a hot water bottle down my pants.
Talking of pants.....I did venture out with Frank and Bella for walkies this morning albeit a slow process. I had just been saying to Frank how Deep Heat seems to have lost the heat I remember it having, when we walked past a big clump of nettles. I looked to see if anyone was coming and as there wasn't, I pulled my leggings down to my hips and lowered my back into the nettles whilst holding on to Frank's hands. He was in stitches saying it would make a good Blip. I'll leave that one to your imagination!
This is an age old remedy for joint and muscle aches - even used by WW1 soldiers in the trenches. Some will think I'm a bit mad but the stings really get the blood flow to the area and the warm, pulsating sensation is comforting and longer lasting than all the creams I have in the cupboard.
After lunch I felt a bit better and because I saw a Blip of cake (Danky ;-) I had to make some too. We haven't had cake for ages and I have a really easy vegan recipe. I added dried fruit, chopped apricots and dessicated coconut to it. YUM!
There is Corona Virus in our village apparently and some people are having to self isolate.
Worrying times for everyone as it is quite a close knit community.
Stay safe - you just don't know where it is and who may be carrying it.
