The Baron Lady's Flower

During the 17th century the wife of the 5th Baron of Kincardine died and was buried in Kincardine Kirkyard. She was a native of Lochaber and to fulfil her desire to be buried in her native earth a quantity of soil was imported from Lochaber. After her burial the remainder of the soil was thrown over the Kirkyard dyke. This contained seeds of Dwaef Elder or Danewort which is rare on Speyside. The Dwarf elder which still grows on a bank by the kirk is said to have originate from one of the seeds and is still known as The Baron Lady's Flower. ( Pictyred in the extra,)
