Anchored...

...in Paisley today - an example of a once proud industrial town that is struggling to come to terms with the 21st century. Renfrewshire's county town, it has a long history and boasts numerous examples of fine architecture created in its heyday, not least its abbey. It is, of course, most famous for the Paisley Pattern, the floral teardrop motif based on a shape originally used in Indian shawls. In the 19th century the Paisley weavers made more of these shawls than anywhere else in the world.

The shot features the tower of Clark's domestic finishing mill, built in 1886 as part of the Anchor Mills complex. Here they manufactured and produced thread until the 1980s. The building, a prominent landmark located in the heart of the town, then lay derelict and at risk of demolition for 20 years until a deal with a major supermarket and considerable public funding enabled its conversion to residential apartments.
