Seagulls

Even though we are many miles from the ocean, we have seagulls hanging out at the malls.
After the pioneers arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847, their crops in 1848 were attacked by "Mormon crickets", which threatened their crops and  their survival.  A legion of seagulls arrived and ate most of the crickets, saving the crops.  The seagulls are still around.  The Great Salt Lake is a salt water lake.  They seem to hang  around anywhere they think they might find food, like parking lots.
