Be my Valentine

Grace took a home made card and a heart shaped chocolate lollipop into school for her little Valentine this morning. He was sat at the computer with his headphones on. He opened the card and looked at the lolly. Grace was jumping up and down with excitement. He looked at her and at me with a puzzled expression. Or was it embarrassment? Then he continued with his computer game. Welcome to the world of men, Grace.
But mankind was redeemed this evening when, right before bedtime, there was a gentle rap at the door and there stood a little boy a year older than Grace and his mum. The family had moved away last year so the kids don't see much of each other. In fact it is several months since they last met. Grace appeared at the top of the stairs in her floaty nightgown. The boy held out a bunch of flowers for her. She came down and accepted them gratefully. She told him actually she had given a card and present to a boy at school so I nudged her to remind her that's not the best thing to say when a boy had his mum drive him all the way here right before bedtime. So then she got her little Iggle Piggle etch-a-sketch and wrote "I love you" on it with a little heart.
So it begins: the trials and tribulations of young love. With three daughters I can only imagine what the hormones will be like in ten years' time.
Happy Valentine's Day!
