Another warm sunny day so we headed back to Hastings to explore another part of the country park ( with 200 steps to start - extra taken from the top of the steps looking down on Hastings) and the old town.
Hastings apparently has the biggest beach-launched fishing fleet in Britain and my blip is of the net shops ( or smoke houses) , taken in this fishing area, just behind where the fishing boats are on the beach.
The Net Shops are tall black wooden sheds which were built to provide a weather-proof store for the fishing gear made from natural materials to prevent them from rotting in wet weather. They were originally built on posts to allow the sea to go underneath, but more shingle has built up and the sea no longer reaches them. There was limited space so the sheds had to grow upwards, even though some sheds do have cellars.
Other extra: carved on a bench at the top of the steps. Made me stop and smile:)
