Something Different

We left sunny weather at our house this afternoon and headed into the Fairhaven neighborhood to show Hamish another part of Bellingham. The weather was completely different on Bellingham Bay -- much cooler, overcast, and windy -- but it was still delightful to be there.

The M/V Kennicott was preparing for its departure to Alaska later today. It's one of the ferries on the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS), which covers 3,500 miles of coastline and 35 communities from Bellingham, Washington to Dutch Harbor, Alaska. (The link includes some excellent maps.)

I was impressed with the detailed COVID-19 protocols  in the AMHS website. Pre-COVID, this nine-deck ocean-certified vessel could carry a maximum of 450 passengers; it currently is restricted to just 125 passengers.

I took the extra photo in the large curved windows of the cruise terminal. In addition to my self-portrait, you can see Phil and Hamish in the upper right corner, next to a sculpture of a gull.
