Olive bowl, 2020

Earlier this year, before we locked down, the Minx took up pottery. Like many small businesses, the woman who ran the course worked hard to keep the courses and facilities going throughout the year and so, despite everything, the Minx has been able to work at this new skill.

I think if I was learning how to do this, I would stick fairly rigidly to what I was being taught, attempt to master that, and then think about developing my own style. Yet the Minx seems to have managed to do those two things in parallel, so that pretty much everything she's produced has been both distinctive and, I think, beautiful.

And while I was enjoying the aesthetics of the olive bowl she made, I also savoured its contents before heading off to the studio for a couple of hours, after which the Minx and I met up for dinner at Vero Moderno, which was delicious. The staff were great, too, and one can only hope their business survives the shambolic journey on which the government is currently taking us.
