Greek greens
Tonight I joined a small group on a walking tour that was historical, with snippets of food stories and ended up in a local restaurant. Really nice company - two Romanian women who came for a holiday (separately) and stayed (one 25 years ago, one 4 years ago). They discovered they were cousins too, and an American woman who’s made Athens her home. The tour leader was knowledgeable and sociable. We walked the back streets of Kerameikos and other good places to eat were pointed out too. Dinner was sooo delicious. This plate of greens with a delicious, garlicky glaze was just the beginning. We had a fava bean dip, grilled feta with tomatoes, a flaky pie filled with fennel of Cretan origin, followed by thin slices of smoked pork, and a chicken dish with mushrooms and peppers. Dessert was sweet raisins poured over ice cream. Some nice rose accompanied it. We sat out in a pretty courtyard filled with happy people. Lucky to meet some nice people and eat so well.
