Der Hammer
When something is really good in Germany, you say it was "der Hammer". I think I can call my time in Berlin der Hammer. It has been amazing on so many levels. I can't ever imagine living there but I can easily imagine visiting on a semi regular basis.
Today's Blip is a section of die Mauer (the Berlin Wall), taken from quite near where my course was being held (I think my course would have been in West Berlin).
After the course was finished I walked to the Hauptbahnhof, which was a cracking 35 minutes which took in the Brandenburger Tor, the Reichstag and crossing the Spree on a lovely wee bridge. The Hbf looks amazing from a distance with trains arriving on 3 or 4 levels. For a train station, it is gorgeous.
The train home was the usual ICE debacle. The train I was on was a "Sprinter" that wasn't supposed to stop until Frankfurt and I was really looking forward to getting home. However, as I was chatting with the guy opposite with me on the train, he told me he travels every Thursday on the train back to Frankfurt and that in the last 6 months it has been on time about 3 times. It was 30 minutes late, which meant I missed my fast train to Wiesbaden and had to take the cold and noisy S-Bahn instead.
Lovely to be back.
