War Memorial at St Fagans Museum of Welsh History
This cenotaph was originally constructed in 1936 in Newbridge, Monmouthshire. On it are the names of 79 servicemen who fell in the First World War and 37 who died in the Second World War.
After suffering from mindless graffiti and defacement, the memorial was taken apart stone-by-stone in 1995 and reconstructed to stand in the St Fagans Museum. A new memorial garden was opened at Newbridge.
But this cenotaph is not a mere museum exhibit, as the wreaths and crosses show. After reconstruction it was rededicated as a war memorial. Every year on Remembrance Day (11th November) a service is held here to remember the fallen.
