Probably an Emperor Dragonfly

I spotted this dragonfly which quite surprised me. I hadn't expected they would still be so active at this time of the season. But I was delighted to see it.

I noticed its repetitive flight patterns and when it came on a close run towards me I managed to snap it, so to speak. At one point when I'd lost sight of it in the viewfinder, I lowered my camera and looking slightly upwards I saw it hovering about three feet from my head looking straight at me!
