Fall colour in Logan Canyon

Continuing my backblips

Today Jen took us hiking in Logan Canyon, about 80 minutes drive to the north of Salt Lake City. This was a hike she had taken Laura on when she was with her in July. The drive up through Logan Canyon, through the Bear River Mountains in the Wasatch range was glorious with Fall colour, which continued on the trail, as you can see in my collage. It was mainly an out and back trail with a loop at the end, so Jen thought we could turn around when we’d had enough. It was a little over 10 miles with around 2,000 ft elevation gain, and we virtually finished it! I say virtually, as you reach the crest, and then the Juniper tree which is your destination is a few switchbacks down the other side. Going down would have been OK but then we had to come back up again, and we decided we’d had enough climbing, so we made do with a view down to it! Based on core samples taken a few years ago the Juniper tree is believed to be about 1500 years old, gnarled and twisted, but still alive. It was a fabulous hike, and we felt we’d earned our dinner that evening!
