Male Blackcap

I'm still a little sore after my misadventures on Friday and have not ventured beyond the garden since.  Today we had a visit from this male blackcap [sylvia atricapilla].  These birds used to be regarded as mostly summer visitors but in recent years they have increasingly shown a tendency to overwinter here.

I also took pictures of a great tit on our rockery but the pictures are too horrid to show and I shall delete them.  The poor bird had its right eye hanging out of its socket by a thread.  I thought initially that it had a seed caught around its neck that it was trying to shake off but the magnified image showed the true horror.
