Tunstall
The amount of times I have rode through Tunstall I have lost count of not realising this gem of English parish church existed.
The church of St John The Baptist has Saxon origins and was made new by Sir Thomas Tunstal of nearby Thurland Castle.Sir Thomas was knighted by Henry V at the battle of Agincourt and his grandson Brian Tunstal died heroically at the Battle of Flodden Field in 1553,he was known as the Stainless Knight and immortalised in a poem by Sir Walter Raleigh.
Another feature of the church is a small room above the south porch where every Sunday the Bronte sisters would eat their lunch after walking the two miles from their boarding school at Cowan Bridge. The school feature in Jane Eyre as the terrible Lowood.
So a great motorcycle ride all self isolated with my flask and butties.
Sunny Day.
