Kartoffelstoppeln
I guess most of us have seen this before, people picking up leftover potatoes from harvested fields. Although the trend is into the wrong direction. Some even come with a Porsche, some go into the fields when the harvester is still active, very dangerous. Some go before the farmer had a chance to harvest; happened in our village with an area of 1250 square metres! Whereas the farmers usually don't mind the potatoes to be picked up after the harvest (they want them to disappear anyway), but anything else is theft.
By the way: the German word for the acceptable activity is "stoppeln" (not be confused with Stoppeln = stubbles).
Not only potatoes are stolen, also apples and nuts. One orchard owner now put signs at his trees with the text in Extra. In English it means: We collect our walnuts ourselves. I hope it helps.
