Sally Mair - Loving life

Sunday cat-in-a-box!

Cleo hasn't featured for a while so here she is modelling the box in which my small bottles for my elderberry rob arrived today. I discovered that I had given away or used all my small wine bottles and so as I'm stuck at home just now, I had to resort to buying some online. They arrived today so that's me already to complete the concocting tomorrow.
After my busy day yesterday, today was a bit of a wash out.
I woke this morning and went into the kitchen to make my cup of coffee only to find there was no power there. The lights were OK but the circuit for the sockets had tripped. I got the steps out, our fuse box... like our gas meter...is completely inaccessible. I reset the switch and the kettle started to boil then cut out again. This happened three or four times after which (unable to find any boy scouts around) I used a match to light the gas hob to boil a pan of water for my coffee. Brain refuelled I remembered that we have a service contract for our electrics with the gas board, the best they could offer for a repair visit though was Monday morning. I made the appointment then in good Miss Marple fashion set off to try to identify the fault myself. I switched all the sockets and appliances off then reset the trip switch. I put them back on again, one at a time until eventually I identified the culprit, our waste disposal unit. Relieved I unplugged it, reset the RCD then made another cup of coffee and went to lie down to recover from my exertions.
I realised when looking out of the bedroom window that we had managed to position the bird feeders yesterday with great precision such that I couldn't see them, either from the bedroom or the kitchen. Today's job therefore was to reposition it in a slightly better site. Moving it then triggered a major trim of the Cordyline and I've discovered a whole new area of flower bed as a result. Seems like a good place for some spring bulbs! I was glad to notice that the coal tits have found the new site and the robin and dunnocks both paid a visit. Sadly the field mice also seem to have spotted the relocation so that hasn't worked.
It was a lovely day today so after Ali dropped off her washing first thing, I got it done and hung out and well on the way to being dry.
I did a bit of pruning this afternoon, so perhaps I'm going to get my garden mojo back soon. Oh and u cancelled the gas board visit tomorrow. If it is a fault with the appliance it won't be covered. Having said that we tried out the unit later on today and it worked fine, so either:
The plug wasn't in properly
There was some water near the socket
It's an intermittent fault
Time will tell, its strange that it shorted overnight though when not in use. I'll see how things are tomorrow morning.

Keep safe and well everybody. Life is not as bad as it could be, just not as good as we had hoped it would be.

Steps today 4500, very difficult when restricted to house and garden!
