Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2020 Saturday — Pumpkin Workshop

We attended a Succulent Pumpkin Workshop today ($10 each unless a big pumpkin is selected, then $15). I’m so glad Mr. Fun says “Yes!” to doing ridiculous fun stuff with me — chick stuff!

He was the only guy there! He was at a different work station than me and had all the women laughing and talking!

His pumpkin looks much better than mine; he’s a natural — his is the smaller one.

Mine has strands of dolphin succulents. I’d never heard of those.

They were so easy to make. The top of the pumpkin was sprayed with adhesive and then moss applied. Then the moss was sprayed with adhesive and pieces of succulent were sprayed with adhesive and then they were placed in the moss. The whole thing needs a spritz of water about once a week to keep the moss moist. Eventually the succulents grow “air roots.” The pumpkin will last for months if it has no nicks, cuts, scratches or bruises. Once the pumpkin begins to rot, it can be cut open and the seeds scooped out and dried for approximately two days and then a hole dug in the ground, the seeds dumped in the hole and add a good amount of corn starch (it holds the moisture) and aged manure. Some people just toss the entire rotting pumpkin with succulents into a hole (with corn starch and aged manure), and then in spring a garden of pumpkins and succulents will be thriving.
