Upside down for late ripening

Years ago in Canada my ancient Italian neighbour taught me to hang up my tomatoes and let them ripen off when the weather cooled off. It certainly saves on the watering and my garden tomatoes have been ripening like this in the kitchen (with the roots cut off) since the beginning of september when the slugs started to attack relentlessly.
