Aira Force
We had an easy journey to the Lake District today - the forecast rain only started in the latter half of our journey, and we had no traffic at all, quite surprising really. We arrived at our hotel on Ullswater at about midday and as the room was not yet ready, we took Xena for a walk in the grounds. Then we had a light lunch in their casual restaurant and straight after lunch we headed off to Aira Force where I took this photo.
It rained throughout the time we were there, but every once in a while some good light would come through the trees. It was much warmer than I was expecting, as I have always visited this area in November before when it is very cold. The autumn colours are also lovely, much more advanced than at home down south.
After walking around there we went back to the hotel and finally got into our room and unpacked. Xena was very excited to be there and she is so good, very easy to travel with. The hotel seems quite full and there are a surprisingly large amount of children here - I know it is not yet half term so I wondered why they were not at school, and the grumpy middle aged woman in me thought maybe they were off isolating due to their bubble at school being sent home and so had gone on holiday instead! Quite a few dogs staying here too. Everything is done very well here in terms of Covid safety and the dining tables are spaced far apart.
At about 6pm I noticed the sky was looking much clearer than it had all day with a touch of pink so I went down to the jetty and took a few photos. In extras 1) a very wet and bedraggled Gavin with Xena 2) view at Aira Force 3) the jetty at the end of the day.
We had supper at the hotel which we will do every night as we leave Xena in the room while we eat and I would not like to leave the hotel premises if she started barking or anything like that. She didn't, she was as good as gold while we ate supper and she waited in the room for us. Tomorrow...more rain!
