Amaryllis or Triffid?

I was given this rather lovely plant by a friend as a late Christmas present. It came as a very large, dry looking bulb with wispy dried roots. I planted it on 5th January and within days of planting three green shoots appeared. Each day I've watered it and watched it grow - daily all three stems growing by at least a centimetre. About two weeks ago there were the first signs of the flower buds and today the stems stand about 45 cms tall and the buds are in full flower. This close up of one of the flowers shows the full beauty and glory of the plant but if you are a fan of 'The Day of the Triffids' maybe you can understand why I'm not sure whether it is indeed an amaryllis!
