Kniphofia

I now know the proper name for the Red-Hot Poker and what a great name it is. I was intrigued by the name and found it was from an 18th century  German professor of medicine - Johann Hieronymus Kniphof (1704-63). Apparently he assembled a large and impressive herbarium or collection of dried plants. From this he published a book: Botanica in Originali. The botanical genus Kniphofia was named in his honour. 

Actually these are not yet red hot, but I prefer them at this stage.
