Billinge Beacon
Billinge Hill, also known as Billinge Lump, is the highest point in Merseyside, but this view is taken looking East towards Winter Hill with Wigan in the foreground, originally in Lancashire.
The tower (part featured) and built in the 18th century, was originally a summerhouse for the Winstanley estate, has been a lookout tower in WW2 and one of the traditional fire beacon warning towers.
Billinge Hill is one of 176 hills graded as a Marilyn.
I enjoyed a good stroll through the Billinge Woods for some tree images to get here, but had to dodge the showers brought through on a brisk Easterly breeze.
