Stonehouse Viaduct

1905-1968

The eight span steel truss viaduct was the longest in Scotland 1,371 ft and 158 ft above the river Avon.

Built by Arrol & Company of Glasgow using 2,273 tons of steel

The girders were removed in 1984. The pillars remain and unmaintained they stand solid in tribute to the quality workmanship of stonemasons and engineers of a century ago.
