Inverness and the River Ness, from behind bars...
Bought a couple of cakes from the that new cake shop. The smaller offerings all seemed to be of (what's recently come to be known as) the cup-cake variety. To me they always seem to be a fairly non-descript sponge, with an excessively large, and overly sweet topping. Very artful and all that, but lacking any subtlety, and flavour. All show, and no go!
In my youth they'd have been classed as "iced buns." But back then, their icing layer was quite thin, and the bun part on its own had plenty of flavour, perhaps with some raisins, or sultanas.
Back at work, I left one to hopefully bring a little anonymous cheer to a colleague (though she soon guessed who the cheeky bugger was). Tried the other one, and it reinforced my opinion/prejudice. Give me a Tunnock's Tea Cake, or Snowball any day! Even the likes of Battenburg cake, or any of Mr Kipling's mass produced offerings would be more preferable. A good carrot cake is hard to beat. "Hmmm... where's that recipe..."
Forecast wasn't too accurate today. Was well drenched on the cycle home from the swimming pool. The rain eased as I approached home... of course. At least the weather's becoming a bit milder, and the weekend forecast is good. Just hope that's accurate. Perhaps another outing for the sea kayak...
