Burdock Tweaker

A charm of goldfinches flew up this morning from the tall burdock plants that we leave uncut especially for them. The seeds are quite large, one can be seen in the bill of my blip subject.

A country name for the goldfinch is thistle-tweaker as they love those seeds too. Another of their favourites is teasel. I've recently learnt that only the males can tease out these seeds buried amongst the spikes as they have slightly longer bills than the females.
