Smeaton Lake
My son has been visiting - first time for nine months - the weather has been most disappointing but it cleared up this afternoon and we took a walk round the Lake. It's about five or six miles from where we live. The history of the lake is below.
"A beautiful circular lake walks surrounded by mature trees. Particularly lovely in spring as it is becomes blanketed with bluebells and snowdrops. Smeaton is part of the National tree collection of Scotland – a group of tree collections brought together to highlight their importance and help protect them.
The artificial lake was create in 1820 by George Buchan-Hepburn, the then laird of Smeaton and is renowned for the variety of mature specimen trees.".
