DIY Project?

It looks as if the builders found bigger problems with the roof than was expected. Anyway the roofs all gone and two large steel beans have been lifted onto the top of the walls and large blue tarpaulins have replaced the original tiles. To be honest I'm not keen on the colour
Its not only the roof that has been taken away. Nearly every plant has gone as well, all the cottage garden has disappeared and ,very surprisingly, quite a few large trees. I thought there were rules about removing trees but maybe not these ones.
This cottage needed improving and updating but I am not sure that's what they are actually doing. Hopefully the end result will be worth it.
